Stork finished her drink and rattled the little plastic sabre against the half-melted ice cubes. Her date’s lackluster eyes stopped looking around the room for a better option and settled on her chest. He frowned.

They made drab small talk. Or rather, she tried. He mumbled and waved his hand dismissively in response. The waiter brought more drinks and her date barked something unimaginative about the check at him. Stork smiled an apology and scratched behind her ear.

Her lusterless date looked at the check, coughed, stood up, started to say something, stopped and then walked out of the restaurant.
