Home Is

Prompt courtesy of Lille McFerrin‘s Five Sentence Fiction.

Williams pulled the can from the coals with a thick work glove and set it to the side to cool. A quiet breeze blew past him, bringing faint smells of trees and flowers.  Bullfrogs croaked from the reedy shore of the lake and the stars shone and twinkled in the sky. He spooned the hot beans from the can to his mouth and soaked it all in.

People with roofs and walls sure do miss out on a lot, he thought.

  1. I’ve had a few evenings like this – perhaps too few – and immediately felt a part of this scene. Very nicely done with only a few short sentences.
