A Good Steak is Hard to Find

Ed sliced through the charred outside of his sirloin. It cut easy. He held a piece up to the candle on the table, and inspected its colour. It was the right shade of pink, but Ed knew that didn’t always mean it was cooked properly.

He popped it in his mouth. The delicate seasoning, the warm juices and the tender meat melted on his tongue. He sipped his red wine, letting the flavours meld, and was altogether satisfied.

“I’ve been having an affair,” his wife said.

Ed looked into his wife’s empty, loveless eyes. He shrugged and finished his steak.
