The Battle

Owl and Raccoon stood twenty paces apart in the waist-high grass of the field. They stared across at each other, and then raised their swords to the sky.

Both screamed as they charged at the other.

Steel clinked against steel as they battled back and forth. The battle lasted hours, until the grass was trampled, snapped and bent, forming a rough circle. Neither warrior ready to submit, but both were too exhausted to have any strength in their swings.

A crow cawed from the dark of nearby pine.

They each rushed forward with gritted teeth, narrowed eyes and whitened knuckles.
