Haves and Have Nots

Owl and Raccoon hunkered at the fence and watched the tower.

A procession of knights, all polished armour, sharpened steel and coloured silks rode out on their similarly decorated warhorses. Their backs as straight as the lances they carried.

Raccoon picked at the dirt under his fingernails. Owl scratched at the scab on his elbow.

The column of knights urged their mounts, disappearing in a cloud of heavy dust that continued over the horizon.

They clambered over the fence and hurried to the tower. Climbing in through a window, they circled the table of half-eaten breakfasts, feasting like victorious kings.

  1. Hurray! Owl and Racoon are back! Maybe I haven’t been paying attention but I feel like it’s been a while. I cheer not just because I have a soft spot for these boys, but because they bring out great images and stories in your writing too.

  2. Love it that those two outrageous (dirt-picking, scab-scratching) characters should rout a small army.
(At first I thought Don Quixote but the story went elsewhere.)

  3. The world’s economy: fat cats get everything they need, crumbs for the rest. Which are the vermin?

  4. This is a very interesting world you describe here, with knights, and these kids… very vivid, I want to read more. From the comments I see that there has been more in the past, I think I’ll have to dig. :) Great story.

      1. Found it, you have a well-organized site. I love the imagination. :)

  5. Loved it! Do I have to go back to learn more about Raccoon and Owl? I’m relatively new to FF!
