“You ever think about how many dads will have to explain neck tattoos to their kids?”

“Who’s going to be there?”

“What?”

“What?”

The subway lurched to a stop and some people got off and some more people got on.

“What?”

“What?“

“I didn’t say anything.”

“It’s the next one right?”

“No. The next one.”

“That’s what I said?”

“The one after.”

The train moved, rattled, through the tunnel, and they stayed quiet, moving apart just a little, but enough, as the crowd gained their footing in the car.

“Are you going to be this way all night?”

“Which way?”
