Fare Enough

They got in the back of the taxi cab. Her shifting along the seat, and him waiting to climb in after. She leaned forward and gave the driver their destination.

Then each stared out their window, not really looking at anything out there.

A sports talk program where the hosts complained about the local team’s latest loss, blared from the radio, as the driver nodded along.

The night had not gone as either expected. It was supposed to have been a jolly distraction. A break in recent tensions. She pulled one leg up under her. He scratched at his neck.
