That very first night, the Old Gods came down from the heavens and built a fire in a small forest clearing. The flames boiled the sap in the logs until a knot popped, breaking the velvet quiet. A Wolf arrived, encircling the three of them
“What brings thou here?” it asked, flames dancing in its eyes.
The Old Gods explained they’d brought a secret.
“What is it?”
“Howl so loud the Moon’ll hear, and turn her gaze upon ye,” they said. “Let Her guide the hunt, and never’ll ye be hungry.”
The wolf thanked them, and left them, looking up.
