Gull had a collection of almost-filled and ready to be redeemed loyalty cards. The way he explained it, as long as he kept them, he had a reason to go back. He bought used books and wrote in a one before the price on the first blank page, so people would think he didn’t care about the cost of things. He used pen, most times, even though the prices were marked in pencil.

He flipped through his latest find and discovered an old bus ticket to Cincinnati, its ink almost faded away. Gull held it up to the light, wondering.
