“You know how people always say you should be yourself?” Kid asked.
“Yeah,” Lamb said, halfway in the fridge, hoping there’d somehow be a half-finished bottle of wine somewhere in the back. “Guess we’re either done drinking or we’ll have to go to the corner store.”
They put on their sweaters and scarves, and walked down the block. They hadn’t seen each other in almost a year and were both eager to blurt out everything that happened to them in that time, and also somehow hesitant, worried the other might’ve changed.
“Some people shouldn’t,” Kid continued. “Be themselves, I mean.”
