Sure the work was hard, but it was work, and we were lucky to have it. Put food on the table, and kept a roof over our heads. Not much of one, mind you, it kept most of the rain out. Could have been worse.

That don’t mean we didn’t have a good time now and then. We still had the radio. Don’t know what we’d have done if we didn’t. I liked listening to the hymns. The choral stuff. Your grandmother though, well, she couldn’t get enough of what I always called hillbilly music.
