The kids kept rabbits as pets for a few years. Great big furry things. Fuffy and Puffy. They used to chase them around the living room. They’d just run and laugh until they fell over. Caught them trying to sneak the things into their beds a couple times.
“They’re cold,” the kids said. So I let them.
That one summer, when the kids were about eight and ten, the plant shut down. October, I still hadn’t found work. We couldn’t go hungry. Had a hell of an awful time making it look like a fox had gotten into the hutch.
