Dzinski sat on the bed and waited for the telephone to ring.

The call came an hour later. They didn’t talk much. Just agreed on where to meet. He took a shower and shaved. Had a drink. Then dressed and left his apartment. It had rained earlier in the day, but now the sun made a short appearance before setting.

He took a booth at the front of the restaurant and ordered coffee.

The uniformed officer came in as Dzinski stirred sugar into his second cup. He dropped an envelope on the table and took a seat at the counter.
