Barren, The Lot Are Barren

We told ourselves this was our last day in this town. We said we hated it here. Been here too long. Saw all that it had to offer.

And it wasn’t much.

We had bus tickets to the next town, and then train tickets from that one. We should have been packing. But we sat in the empty living room, drinking beer and listening to the kids yell outside through the open windows. There were things we had to see, we said, before we could settle down.

I guess those things are still out there. She might be too. Somewhere.
